A N A C T
RELATING TO DAYS
OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE

It is enacted by the
General Assembly as follows:
WHEREAS, In 1977, Ben Mondor purchased a
failing minor league baseball franchise in
family-friendly venue; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure at the helm of the PawSox,
Ben Mondor won acclaim
and admiration not only for his professional successes
with the PawSox franchise, but also for his
vision, drive, and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, The impact and legacy Ben Mondor left
on the game of baseball are
nationally renowned and there is no doubt that he left this
state a far better place because of his
life's endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Ben Mondor will forever hold a place of honor in the sport of
baseball and
in
old alike, on any game night at McCoy Stadium.
SECTION 1. Chapter 25-2 of the General Laws entitled
"Days of Special Observance" is
hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:
25-2-53.
Ben Mondor Day. – Opening
Day of the
set apart as a day to be known as "Ben Mondor Day." The day shall be observed by the people
of
this state with appropriate ceremonies and activities that
celebrate the many contributions Ben
Mondor made.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
