AMENDMENT OF SECTIONS 3 AND 4 OF CHAPTER 905 OF THE PUBLIC LAWS OF 1912,
ENTITLED "AN ACT TO INCORPORATE THE CHEPACHET FIRE DISTRICT, " AS
AMENDED

It is enacted by the General Assembly as
follows:
SECTION 1.
Sections 3 and 4
of Chapter 905 of the Public Laws of 1912 entitled "An Act to
Incorporate the Chepachet Fire District" as
amended is hereby further amended to read as
follows:
Sec. 3. The annual
meeting of said district shall be holden on the second Saturday of July
June in each year. The first meting shall be holden
on the second Saturday after the enactment of
this act in the town of Glocester within the
limits of the fire district, and may be called by any one
or more of the qualified voters of said
district. All person possessing the qualifications set forth
in Section 2 of this act shall be intitled to
vote at said meeting. Upon the proposition: "Shall the
Chepachet fire district shall be established
according to the act of incorporation passed by the
general assembly of the state?" If a
majority of the person so voting shall vote "yes," then said
Chepachet fire district shall be established
according to the provisions of this act. If the majority
of the persons so voting shall vote
"no," then this act shall become null and void,( as amended by
1991 Private Act 57,eff.6/19/91).

Sec. 4. The
qualified voters of the district at each annual meeting, and at any other
meeting when vacancies occur, may elect officers
to serve one year, or until the next annual
meeting and until others may be chosen in their
stead; which officers shall consist of a moderator,
clerk, treasurer, and three (3)
assessors, and a collector of taxes, whose duties and powers within
said district shall be such as like officers of
towns in this state have in their respective towns. The
duly elected board members of the Chepachet Fire
district (herein after "the Board") shall be
empowered to appoint the following officers on
an annual basis, at the next annual meeting, or
until others may be chosen in the stead; which
officers shall consist of a Treasurer, Clerk and the
Collector of Taxes, whose duties and powers
within said district shall be such as like officers of
towns in this state have in their respective
towns.
They may also
elect fire wardens, executive committee, and such other officers as may be
needed, provided, however, the term of office of
such members of the executive committee shall
be elected as follows: in the year 2001 at the
annual meeting two (2) members shall be elected to
a three (3) year term, two (2) members to a two
(2) year term and one shall be elected to a one
year term. When their term of office expires
said member or, members shall be elected to a three
(3) year terms so members will be elected to
staggered three (3) year terms, and shall serve until
their successor is elected or appointed and
qualified. Also, the three (3) tax assessors shall be
elected to a three (3) year term, one elected to
a two (2) term and one elected to a one year terms
and shall serve until their successor is elected
or appointed or qualified. (as amended by 1954

SECTION 2. This
act shall take effect upon passage.
