NAMING THE STATE PIER IN NEWPORT AT WASHINGTON STREET IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT THE "LOUIS JAGSCHITZ STATE PIER"

It is enacted
by the General Assembly as follows:
SECTION
1. Whereas, Louis Jagschitz of Newport, known
affectionately as "Louie the Lobsterman" died on June 30, 2001; and
WHEREAS,
"Louie the Lobsterman" trolled the waters of Narragansett by tending
his lobster pots daily until the day he died at the age of 80 years; and
WHEREAS,
"Louie the Lobsterman" with his Santa Claus-like full white beard and
craggy visage became a walking tourist attraction feature in local and national
publications, not to mention the homes of the countless visitors who tool
snapshots of him; and
WHEREAS,
"Louie the Lobsterman" represented those who have made their living
from the sea.
SECTION
2. Chapter 22-7.4 of the General Laws entitled "Permanent Joint Committee on Naming
All New Buildings, Bridges, Edifices and
Other State Constructions" is hereby amended by adding thereto the
following section:
22-7.4-73. Louis Jagschitz
State Pier. -- The
state pier located at Washington street in the city of Newport will be named
the "Louis Jagschitz State Pier."
SECTION
3. This act shall take effect upon passage.
