CONGRATULATING AND THANKING KATHRYN CROWLEY, SUPERINTENDENT OF | |
THE EAST PROVIDENCE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ON THE OCCASION OF HER | |
RETIREMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, A dedicated and innovative educator and administrator, Kathryn Crowley |
2 | has distinguished herself throughout her career in education. Her leadership as Superintendent of |
3 | the East Providence Public Schools since assuming the position almost seven years ago is clearly |
4 | exemplary; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Ms. Crowley has served as Superintendent of East Providence’s schools |
6 | since 2015, she had previously served as Little Compton Superintendent from 2010-2015, and as |
7 | Assistant Superintendent in Johnston from 2003-2010; and |
8 | WHEREAS, During her tenure in East Providence, Superintendent Crowley is credited |
9 | with strengthening the district’s student performance including graduation and attendance rates, |
10 | and revising curricula in all disciplines, expanding educational technology, and monumentally, |
11 | the development of plans for the new high school; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Spearheaded by Superintendent Crowley, the push to build the new East |
13 | Providence High School included winning voter approval in 2018, phased demolition of the old |
14 | school, the building of a 21st-century structure that includes 11 science labs, a beautiful |
15 | greenhouse, a double gymnasium, a library media center, and new athletic fields, to name but a |
16 | few of the advantages that are now offered to students; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Highly respected by her peers, Superintendent Crowley was named the 2020 |
18 | Rhode Island "Superintendent of the Year" by the Rhode Island School Superintendents |
19 | Association (RISSA), which "recognizes outstanding achievement in school district leadership, |

1 | dedication to the education of all children, commitment to the community, and service to the |
2 | RISSA"; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Superintendent Crowley is retiring from the East Providence School |
4 | Department after seven years of dedicated and distinguished service to the students and citizens |
5 | of East Providence, but the accomplishments and strides she has made in the educational |
6 | experience for the children and young people of the City will be felt for many years to come; |
7 | now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby honors and thanks |
9 | Superintendent Kathryn Crowley on the occasion of her retirement. We commend her for all her |
10 | efforts and wish her good health, fulfillment, and much success in all her future endeavors; and be |
11 | it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kathryn Crowley, Superintendent of East |
14 | Providence Schools. |
