CONGRATULATING GARY FURTADO ON HIS RETIREMENT AS THE PRESIDENT & | |
CEO OF NAVIGANT CREDIT UNION AFTER FORTY-FOUR YEARS OF | |
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE WITHIN THE RHODE ISLAND BUSINESS COMMUNITY | |

1 | WHEREAS, Gary Furtado began his exemplary professional career in 1978, shortly after |
2 | graduating from Bryant University, when he accepted an accounting position with Navigant |
3 | Credit Union, then known as Credit Union Central Falls; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Thanks to his tireless work ethic, business acumen and incredible leadership |
5 | skills, Mr. Furtado was named the President/CEO of Navigant in 1987, a position he has held for |
6 | the last thirty-five years; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Under Mr. Furtado’s guidance and direction, Navigant Credit Union |
8 | experienced exceptional growth, swelling from a one-branch credit union in Central Falls, to its |
9 | current position as Rhode Island’s largest member-owned credit union. Currently, Navigant |
10 | Credit Union serves more than 125,000 members, with twenty-three branch locations across the |
11 | state, and more than $3 billion in operating assets; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Gary Furtado is widely respected and admired throughout Rhode Island and |
13 | Southeastern New England for his abiding integrity, his ability to connect with all people in all |
14 | levels of society, and for helping to create a better business environment in Rhode Island and, |
15 | through his success, creating much-needed jobs for the State. Perhaps Ann Kashmanian, Chair, |
16 | Navigant Credit Union Board of Directors, provided the most eloquent testimony to Mr. |
17 | Furtado’s impact on Rhode Island when she said, “Gary Furtado is a bona fide visionary leader, a |
18 | quintessential representative of credit union principles and values, and a respected mentor and |
19 | friend to the countless colleagues he’s touched over the course of his career. His impact on |

2 | industry truly cannot be overstated.”; now, therefore be it |
3 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby congratulates Gary |
4 | Furtado on his retirement as President & CEO of Navigant Credit Union after forty-four years of |
5 | distinguished service within the Rhode Island business community. We furthermore wish Mr. |
6 | Furtado a most happy and healthy retirement and continued success in all his future endeavors; |
7 | and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Gary Furtado. |
