PROCLAIMING MAY 26, 2022, AS "COX CHARITIES DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE | |

1 | WHEREAS, Cox Communications is committed to creating meaningful moments of |
2 | human connection through technology. The largest private broadband company in America, Cox |
3 | proudly serves seven million homes and businesses across 18 states. Cox Communications is the |
4 | largest division of Cox Enterprises, a family-owned business founded in 1898 by Governor James |
5 | M. Cox; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Since 2001, Cox employees and business partners have invested in Cox |
7 | Charities, a charitable giving initiative of Cox Communications. Cox Charities has invested more |
8 | than $7 million in grants and in-kind support to organizations providing S.T.E.A.M. [Science. |
9 | Technology. Engineering. Arts and Math] enrichment programs to youth throughout Connecticut, |
10 | Ohio and Rhode Island; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Cox believes in community action through giving and loves the position |
12 | they hold as a contributing member of the community through their business, their employees and |
13 | their customers. This compels Cox to provide support with monetary, media and premium gift |
14 | contributions that provide goodwill to organizations and causes in need and strengthens the |
15 | social, economic and educational infrastructure of our community; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Cox demonstrates what they firmly believe by their focused areas of giving. |
17 | They concentrate their support in, but are not limited to, the key areas of the environment |
18 | through their support of organizations and initiatives that encourage environmental sustainability |
19 | and conservation; civic and community through their support of charitable and community |

1 | organizations that make a positive difference in the communities they serve; and youth & |
2 | education, through their support of programs targeted toward providing children the essentials |
3 | they need to grow up into self-supporting and contributing members of society. Realizing the |
4 | importance of education, Cox supports initiatives that enhance educational efforts, particularly at |
5 | the K-12 level, diversity through their support of organizations that directly support the many |
6 | facets of the richly diverse communities they serve, and technology through their support of |
7 | initiatives that enhance technology curriculum for children, particularly at the K-12 level; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The 2022 Rhode Island recipients of Cox Charities grants are The Science |
9 | and Math Investigative Learning Experiences (SMILE Program), The Highlander Charter School, |
10 | Global Science Envirotech, Providence Public Library, Woonasquatucket River Watershed |
11 | Council, The Empowerment Factory, DownCity Design, City Year, and Big Brothers Big Sisters |
12 | of Rhode Island; now, therefore be it |
13 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby extends our sincerest |
14 | congratulations to all of the 2022 Cox Charities Grant Recipients and thanks Cox for its |
15 | philanthropic efforts in Rhode Island; and be it further |
16 | RESOLVED, That this Senate hereby proclaims May 26 of 2022 to be “Cox Charities |
17 | Day” in the State of Rhode Island; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
19 | transmit duly certified copies of the resolution to Mr. Ross Nelson, Senior Vice President and |
20 | Northeast Region Manager of Cox Communications and Ms. Rosie Fernandez, Manager of |
21 | Community Relations for Cox Communications Northeast. |
