TAKEOVER WEEK" | |

1 | WHEREAS, About every two and a half minutes, a person in the United States is |
2 | diagnosed with lung cancer; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for women and men; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Lung cancer screening saves lives, and advocacy and increased awareness |
5 | will result in more high-risk individuals getting screened; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Public support for research funding will result in new treatments and better |
7 | methods of early detection; and |
8 | WHEREAS, LUNG FORCE is a national initiative led by the American Lung |
9 | Association, to defeat lung cancer; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby proclaims May 8th |
11 | through May 14th to be "Turquoise Takeover Week" throughout the State and encourages all |
12 | residents to learn more about lung cancer, risk factors and early detection; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Daniel Fitzgerald, Network Coordinator of |
15 | Tobacco Free Rhode Island at the American Lung Association. |
