EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANGELINA DEFILIPPO | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of |
2 | Angelina DeFilippo, the loving wife of the late Vincent DeFilippo. She was born on March 25, |
3 | 1936, in Prata Sannita, Caserta, Italy, the beloved daughter of Pasquale and Vincenza Giradi, and |
4 | at the age of seventeen, immigrated with her family to the United States and settled in Cranston; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, Mrs. DeFilippo was a hard-working woman who tirelessly strove to create a |
7 | warm and loving home for her family and provide for her loved ones. In her early years, she and |
8 | her husband, Vincent, owned Father and Son’s Café in the Silver Lake neighborhood of |
9 | Providence. In her later years, they owned Faith Restaurant and Catering in the Atwood Medical |
10 | Building in Johnston for twenty years; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Mrs. DeFilippo was a woman of great faith who served God and her church |
12 | faithfully her entire life. She attended daily Mass and prayed the Rosary many times each day. |
13 | She was one of the founders of the Santa Maria di Prata Society and served as the President of the |
14 | Women’s Auxiliary for twelve years. She organized and helped cook for the annual festival in |
15 | honor of La Madonna di Prata and the famous St. Joseph’s polenta dinner, and volunteered her |
16 | time at the Cranston Senior Center working with Alzheimer’s patients and St. Rocco’s Church |
17 | teaching CCD to youngsters. She also made numerous spiritual journeys to the Vatican and to |
18 | Medjugorje; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In her free time, Mrs. DeFilippo loved playing bocce and was the proud |
20 | bocce champion of the Cranston Senior Center Senior Olympic Games alongside her sister. She |

1 | also loved cooking and taking care of her family, and was a fun-loving person who enjoyed |
2 | nothing more than seeing people smile and laugh at her practical jokes and silly antics. She was a |
3 | beacon of light in this world and will be dearly missed by her loved ones and many friends; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Mrs. DeFlippo leaves behind her children, Donna Giarusso and her |
5 | husband, Steven, Lori-Ann Carlino and her husband, Mario, and Gina Hebert. She was the |
6 | beloved grandmother of Dawn Giarusso, Stephanie Kaffenburger, Christina Lombardo, Kayla |
7 | Holbrook, Brianna Carlino and Angelica Gardner, and the beloved great-grandmother of seven. |
8 | She was the sister of the late Elisabetta Testa and her late husband, Americo, Assunta Feole and |
9 | her husband, Leo, and Dolores Lisi and her late husband Frank; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses its deepest |
11 | condolences on the passing of Angelina DeFilippo; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Donna Giarusso, Lori-Ann Carlino and Gina |
14 | Hebert. |
