EXTENDING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MICHAEL ANTHONY | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Michael |
2 | Anthony Trofi, Sr., the beloved husband of Therese Trofi for sixty years, the father of Michael |
3 | Trofi Jr. and his wife, Tracy, William Trofi and his wife, Karen, and Laura Trofi, and the very |
4 | proud grandfather of six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Michael Trofi was born and raised in the City of Providence, a son of the |
6 | late Salvatore and Angelina Trofi, the brother of Salvatore Trofi and his wife, Ingrid, Anne |
7 | Worley and her late husband, John, the late Vincent Trofi, and the uncle of many nieces and |
8 | nephews; and |
9 | WHEREAS, After graduating from LaSalle Academy, Mr. Trofi continued his education |
10 | earning his Bachelor’s degree in History Education from Rhode Island College, and later, a |
11 | Master’s in Education from Rhode Island College. He began his career teaching history and |
12 | social studies with the West Warwick Public School Department, and subsequently became the |
13 | Chair for the Department of Social Studies; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Dedicated to his students and their families well-being, Mr. Trofi worked |
15 | with the Federal Government to support work experience programs for economically |
16 | disadvantaged youths such as Neighborhood Youth Corps, CETA, and JTPA. In addition, |
17 | professionally he had been elected by his peers to serve as the Vice President of the West |
18 | Warwick Teachers' Alliance, and used his extensive expertise to apply for various grants to |
19 | benefit both teachers and students; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Mr. Trofi was named as the Director of Professional |
2 | Development Academy for the West Warwick School Department. He also directed two national |
3 | teacher summer training institutes a year at Salve Regina University and was actively involved in |
4 | Civitas, an International Civic Education Exchange Program. He was a Member of the Rhode |
5 | Island Legislature Commission on Civic Education and led a team of Rhode Islanders who |
6 | attended the United States Congress’ Conference on Civic Education. He also served as Director |
7 | of Training for the Center for Civic Education, and supported Project Citizen, We the People, the |
8 | School Violence Prevention Demonstration Project, Citizens not Spectators, and James Madison |
9 | Legacy; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mr. Trofi was devoted to his family, friends and students. He loved |
11 | spending time with his family and watching his children grow and raise their own families, and |
12 | serving as a mentor to both his family and his students. He had many lifelong friendships with |
13 | whom he enjoyed talking about history, politics and sports, especially New England Teams and |
14 | the Men’s NCAA Frozen Four which he annually attended; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Michael Trofi led a full and wonderful life surrounded by love and |
16 | rewarding experiences and accomplishments and he will be dearly missed and forever |
17 | remembered by those whose lives he enriched and shared; now, therefore |
18 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby extends deepest |
19 | condolences on the passing of Michael Anthony Trofi, Sr.; and be it further |
20 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
21 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Therese Trofi and Family. |
