     STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

IN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

JANUARY SESSION, A.D. 2022

____________

H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

CONGRATULATING THE NORTH KINGSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM ON

WINNING THE 2022 RHODE ISLAND DIVISION I BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Introduced By: Representatives Craven, Casimiro, Shekarchi, Blazejewski, Filippi, and J
Lombardi

     Date Introduced: June 23, 2022

Referred To: House read and passed

1

WHEREAS, The North Kingstown Skippers baseball team had an outstanding season,

2

compiling a stellar 16-2 Divisional record for a first place tie, and an impressive overall regular

3

season record of 25-3, the best in Division I; and

4

WHEREAS, As a result of their regular season success, the Skippers received a one seed

5

and a first round bye in the Division I playoffs. North Kingstown survived a scare in the

6

quarterfinals from Cranston West, before pulling out a 2-1 victory to advance to the semi-final

7

round. The Skippers proceeded to sweep Portsmouth with two straight victories to advance to the

8

finals; and

9

WHEREAS, North Kingstown swept archrival Bishop Hendricken in two straight games

10

to repeat as State Champions. In a thrilling pitcher’s duel, the Skippers won the first game 1-0

11

with Evan Maloney and Braeden Perry combining for a no-hitter to defeat the Hawks ace pitching

12

star Alex Clemmey, who struck out 13 in defeat. In the deciding match, North Kingstown jumped

13

out to a big early lead and held on to prevail and clinch their championship in a high-scoring 10

14

to 7 victory. After losing a 5-0 lead to Hendricken, North Kingstown, showing the grit and

15

resiliency they exhibited all season, rallied to take the lead again in the eighth inning by putting

16

four runs on the board thanks in large part to a clutch triple by Andrew Ciarniello. Hendricken

17

tried to rally one last time before T.J. Gormley closed the door and clinched another baseball title

18

for the Skippers. North Kingstown had just become only the third public school team to repeat as

19

champions in the last 70 years; and

1

WHEREAS, Winning a State Championship is an incredible feat, one that requires that

2

every player on the team give their all and place team goals ahead of personal aspirations. The

3

North Kingstown Baseball Team had these attributes in abundance as they were led all season by

4

the important contributions provided by Will Brew, Blake Beattie, Hank Martin, Andrew

5

Ciarniello, Quincy Rome, Alec Bard, Robbie Lamond, Luke Porter, Will Draper, Ben Davis, Ben

6

Napoli, Max Proulx, T.J. Gormley, Evan Beattie, Braeden Perry, Ryan Dionizio, Evan Maloney,

7

Will Creed, and Josh Lincourt. The Skippers also benefitted all season from the outstanding

8

leadership and coaching provided by Head Coach Kevin Gormley, and Assistant Coaches Bill

9

Brew and Anthony Ucci; now, therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

11

heartily congratulates the North Kingstown Baseball Team on winning their second straight

12

Rhode Island Division I Baseball Championship; and be it further

13

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

14

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to North Kingstown Head Baseball Coach, Kevin

15

Gormley.
