RELATING TO EDUCATION -- HEALTH AND SAFETY OF PUPILS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-21 of the General Laws entitled "Health and Safety of Pupils" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 16-21-23.3. School safety measures. |
4 | (a) In addition to the safety protocols enumerated in ยงยง 16-21-23, 16-21-23.1 and 16-21- |
5 | 23.2, the following additional measures shall be taken by all pre-kindergarten through grade twelve |
6 | (pre-K through 12) schools in the state: |
7 | (1) There shall be a school resource officer or security personnel, armed or unarmed, at |
8 | every entrance of the school building. |
9 | (2) All exterior doors shall be locked after the morning arrival of students. |
10 | (3) All visitors to the school shall provide a valid ID and state the purpose of their visit |
11 | prior to entry. |
12 | (4) Visitors shall be allowed access to a security vestibule using an outside door buzz-in |
13 | system. |
14 | (5) Security cameras shall be installed at each school entrance as well as the perimeter of |
15 | the school property. |
16 | (b) The department of education shall promulgate rules and regulations to implement the |
17 | provisions of this section. |
