CONGRATULATING THE EXETER JOB CORPS ACADEMY ON WINNING THE 2022 RI

PROSTART® HIGH SCHOOL CULINARY ARTS, FOODSERVICE AND HOTEL

MANAGEMENT COMPETITION

     WHEREAS, ProStart® is a nationwide, two-year program that teaches and provides

2

students with real-world educational and skill-building opportunities in the areas of culinary

3

techniques, foodservice, and hotel management through a two-year program; and

4

     WHEREAS, Nationally, approximately 130,000 students from more than 1,700 high

5

schools in fifty states, as well as Guam and the District of Columbia, enter the program gaining

6

real-life experience opportunities and practical skills; and

7

     WHEREAS, Annually, RI ProStart® holds a RI High School Culinary Arts, Foodservice

8

and Hotel Management Competition that brings together the top ProStart® high school students

9

from across the State and provides them with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills for

10

industry leaders; and

11

     WHEREAS, The 2022 RI ProStart® competition winners were from Exeter Job Corps

12

and included team members Noah Sacchetti, Auston Van, Omar Morales, Bruce Angelini,

13

Jeremie Luna, Shane Giroux, Jayden Laracuente, Tyler Lowe, Kim Kellerman, Jasper Rothermel,

14

Lisha Oakes, and Chef Mark Bennison; and

15

     WHEREAS, By winning the RI competition, the Exeter Job Corps team earned the

16

chance to compete in the National ProStart® Competition with the potential of earning coveted

17

scholarships from the Nation's best culinary and restaurant management programs. This year,

18

nearly 400 students competed in the national competition in Washington D.C.; and

19

     WHEREAS, Exeter's Team Dynasty placed 26th out of 42 in the Culinary competition

which "highlights each team's creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in

2

60 minutes, using only two butane burners, and without access to running water or electricity.

Students are evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, safety and sanitation"; and

4

     WHEREAS, Exeter's Team Eagles Nest placed 30th out of 42 in the Management

5

competition in which each team must "develop a proposal for the next promising restaurant

6

concept and present it to a panel of industry judges. Their problem solving skills are tested as they

7

quickly solve challenges faced by managers daily"; and

8

     WHEREAS, There are always young people who rise above the rest, who dare to dream,

9

and are willing to endeavor to make those dreams become reality and it is essential and fitting to

10

recognize their triumphs; now, therefore be it

11

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

12

congratulates and applauds the members of the 2022 Exeter Job Corps team on winning the RI

13

ProStart® High School Culinary Arts, Foodservice and Hotel Management Competition and

14

wishes them much success in their future careers; and

15

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

16

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Exeter Job Corps Center.
