H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MICHAEL JAMES BURKE SR.

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House of Representatives has learned of the

passing of Michael James Burke Sr., a forty-three year resident of North Kingstown. He was the

beloved husband of Dolores Burke for forty-three years; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Burke was born and raised in Warwick. He attended Warwick Public

Schools and was a graduate of Bryant College. He began his professional career as a police

officer and later transitioned to the Teamsters where he was a member of local union #251 for

thirty years; and

     WHEREAS, Upon retirement from the teamsters, Mr. Burke proceeded to work for the

Rhode Island House of Representatives from March of 2002 to the present; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Burke was an active member of the North Kingstown Democratic Town

Committee for forty years. In his free time, he was an enthusiastic fan of the New England

Patriots. He was a long-time season ticket holder, and attended ten of the eleven Super Bowls in

which the Patriots participated; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Dolores, Mr. Burke leaves behind his children

Michael J. Burke, Jr., Matthew J. Burke, and Daniel J. Burke, and his two adored grandsons;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

expresses its deepest condolences to the Burke family on the passing of Michael James Burke Sr.,

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Mrs. Dolores Burke and Family.
