CONGRATULATING AND THANKING WILLIAM F. FLYNN JR. MSW, FOR HIS

THIRTEEN YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE

SENIOR AGENDA COALITION OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, As Executive Director of the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island,

2

William Flynn Jr., has devoted all his considerable talents and energy to improving the lives and

3

livelihood of Rhode Island seniors for the past thirteen years; and

4

     WHEREAS, The Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island is a Domestic Nonprofit

5

Corporation whose purpose is "to collect and disseminate to the general public information about

6

policies, programs, and economic and social conditions affecting elderly residents of RI"; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Flynn received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Cum

8

Laude, from the Michigan School of Business Administration and a Master of Social Work

9

degree from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Social Work. In addition, he taught

10

classes at the Rhode Island College School of Social Work, and social work and public policy

11

courses at Salve Regina University and Roger Williams University; and

12

     WHEREAS, In his capacity as Executive Director of the Senior Agenda Coalition of

13

Rhode Island, Mr. Flynn has diligently advocated, initiated, and testified for programs and

14

assistance that would develop, establish, and protect essential services including, senior centers,

15

Meals on Wheels, home and community-based care, respite care for caregivers, Medicaid non-

16

emergency medical transportation, and no-fare bus passes for the State's most vulnerable seniors;

17

and

18

     WHEREAS, Mr. Flynn was previously employed as a VISTA supervisor, the Director of

19

Advocacy and Public Policy for the Urban League, development director for nonprofit agencies

throughout New England, Director of Community Programs for the R.I. Community Food Bank,

2

and served for nine years as the Executive Director of the George Wiley Center; and

3

     WHEREAS, In service to our country, community and professionally, Mr. Flynn

4

honorably served in the United States Navy Seabees, was the President of the Board of Directors

5

for the SER-Jobs for Progress, and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers;

6

and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Flynn will retire as Executive Director on February 28, 2022. He leaves

8

a legacy of commitment to senior services and rights that has improved the quality of life for so

9

many people. He is an extraordinary and dedicated person who has truly served as a model of

10

conscientious civic service, and he is enormously worthy of our emulation and acknowledgement;

11

now, therefore be it

12

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

13

congratulates and thanks William Flynn Jr., for his dedicated service as Executive Director of the

14

Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island. We furthermore wish him good health, fulfillment and

15

continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it further

16

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

17

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. William Flynn Jr.
