RELATING TO PUBLIC PROPERTY AND WORKS -- STATE PURCHASES

     Introduced By: Representatives Quattrocchi, Place, Price, Nardone, Filippi, and Roberts

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 37-2 of the General Laws entitled "State Purchases" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     37-2-17.3. Purchase of motor vehicles by volunteer firefighters.

     (a) "Volunteer firefighter," for purpose of this section, means a volunteer, call, reserve, or

permanent-intermittent firefighter or emergency medical technician who, in the previous calendar

year, completed no less than eighty (80) hours of fire or emergency medical service training

approved by the senior ranking local fire official, and, actively participated in at least twenty-five

percent (25%) of the local service runs in response to calls for emergency services, and is in good

current standing.

     (b) Each volunteer firefighter meeting the criteria set forth in this section shall be eligible

to utilize the provisions of this chapter for the purpose of purchasing any motor vehicle, as defined

in § 31-1-3.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

state purchasing provisions.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
