S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE PASSING OF PATRICIA ANN DIPRETE

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Patricia

2

Ann DiPrete, the cherished wife of our dear friend and colleague, Representative Arthur Handy,

3

and the loving mother of Alexander James Handy; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in the City of Providence, "Tish" as she was affectionately known to

5

family and friends was the daughter of Janice and the late James DiPrete, Jr., and the sister of

6

Jacqueline Zannini and her husband, Michael, Kenneth DiPrete, and Ronald DiPrete and his wife,

7

Martha. She was also the aunt of Mia James DiPrete, the daughter-in-law of Dorothea Handy, and

8

the sister-in-law of Ben Handy and the late Gail DiPrete; and

9

     WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Patricia was a voice for those who needed

10

protection, and a guardian for all our civil rights, as well as environmental justice, reproductive

11

rights and racial profiling; and

12

     WHEREAS, Although not nearly long enough, Patricia led an accomplished and

13

productive life. Without exception, her son was her greatest legacy and her family and friends

14

always came first in her heart, but as Policy Director of the Urban League, her fierce and

15

successful advocacy for passage of the Madeline Walker Act, which helps to prevent

16

foreclosures, assisted thousands of Rhode Islanders to stay in their homes and was a laudable

17

humanitarian achievement; and

18

     WHEREAS, Patricia was blessed to have the total love and support of her family, and to

19

have had a small gift of precious time during the pandemic to bask in their love and company.

She was a very special lady who possessed an inner strength that belied her gentle and nurturing

soul, and she could light up a room with her incredible love and spirit which she freely shared

2

with her family and friends. She will be so dearly missed and forever in the memories of those

3

she loved; now, therefore be it

4

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby offers heartfelt

5

sympathy to the bereaved family and friends of Patricia Ann DiPrete; and be it further

6

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

7

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Arthur Handy and Family.
