EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE PASSING OF PATRICIA ANN DIPRETE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Patricia |
2 | Ann DiPrete, the cherished wife of our dear friend and colleague, Representative Arthur Handy, |
3 | and the loving mother of Alexander James Handy; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Born in the City of Providence, "Tish" as she was affectionately known to |
5 | family and friends was the daughter of Janice and the late James DiPrete, Jr., and the sister of |
6 | Jacqueline Zannini and her husband, Michael, Kenneth DiPrete, and Ronald DiPrete and his wife, |
7 | Martha. She was also the aunt of Mia James DiPrete, the daughter-in-law of Dorothea Handy, and |
8 | the sister-in-law of Ben Handy and the late Gail DiPrete; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Patricia was a voice for those who needed |
10 | protection, and a guardian for all our civil rights, as well as environmental justice, reproductive |
11 | rights and racial profiling; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Although not nearly long enough, Patricia led an accomplished and |
13 | productive life. Without exception, her son was her greatest legacy and her family and friends |
14 | always came first in her heart, but as Policy Director of the Urban League, her fierce and |
15 | successful advocacy for passage of the Madeline Walker Act, which helps to prevent |
16 | foreclosures, assisted thousands of Rhode Islanders to stay in their homes and was a laudable |
17 | humanitarian achievement; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Patricia was blessed to have the total love and support of her family, and to |
19 | have had a small gift of precious time during the pandemic to bask in their love and company. |
20 | She was a very special lady who possessed an inner strength that belied her gentle and nurturing |

1 | soul, and she could light up a room with her incredible love and spirit which she freely shared |
2 | with her family and friends. She will be so dearly missed and forever in the memories of those |
3 | she loved; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby offers heartfelt |
5 | sympathy to the bereaved family and friends of Patricia Ann DiPrete; and be it further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Arthur Handy and Family. |
