RECOGNIZING AND CONGRATULATING THE RHODE ISLAND HISPANIC CHAMBER | |
OF COMMERCE ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 5TH ANNIVERSARY | |

1 | WHEREAS, Incorporated on May 19th of 2016, the RI Hispanic Chamber of Commerce |
2 | was organized to represent, promote and empower Rhode Island's Hispanic business community |
3 | in order to create a business environment that sustains economic vitality by supporting the needs |
4 | of local businesses and by building strong relationships between corporate America and the |
5 | Hispanic-owned businesses in our State; and |
6 | WHEREAS, The Chamber represents Hispanic-owned small businesses, entrepreneurs |
7 | and institutions "committed to the economic development and success of the Hispanic business |
8 | community" and based on the "highest standards of ethics, integrity, and community service"; and |
9 | WHEREAS, In addition, the Chamber monitors and advocates "for sound public policies, |
10 | and programs that impact Hispanic businesses" and collaborates "with the Hispanic community |
11 | and other Hispanic organizations in order to support the advancement, education, and economic |
12 | growth of the Hispanic community" in Rhode Island; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Over the past year, COVID has had a devastating effect on Hispanic-owned |
14 | businesses with 32 percent failing according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. The |
15 | Chamber has offered assistance by waiving the fee for new businesses to join, mentoring business |
16 | owners in the process for applying for state aid and Federal loans, and in communicating with the |
17 | state to try to strengthen programs for all business owners; and |
18 | WHEREAS, The RI Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has earned the unqualified |
19 | admiration and the gratitude of the Hispanic business community, and its accomplishments over |

1 | the past five years are eminently worthy of our recognition and praise; now, therefore be it |
2 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes and |
3 | congratulates the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its 5th Anniversary. We |
4 | furthermore thank the entire membership for their dedicated service to the Hispanic community |
5 | and wish them many more years of success ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for |
6 | Rhode Islanders; and be it further |
7 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
8 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Luis Torrado, Chairman of the Rhode Island |
9 | Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. |
