1

WHEREAS, Many people go through their life without any personal contact with a

2

potential life or death situation, without a defining moment that turns an ordinary person into a

3

hero. Members of Rhode Island’s fire departments face such challenges each and every week; and

4

WHEREAS, The townspeople of South Kingstown and neighboring communities have

5

witnessed, benefited, and enjoyed peace of mind because of the dedication of volunteer

6

firefighters with the Union Fire District in South Kingstown; and

7

WHEREAS, In the early morning hours of March 20, 2021, a dispatch alerted the Union

8

Fire District of a possible structure fire and that there was a potential victim still trapped inside.

9

First to arrive at the location was Deputy Chief Tony Cinquegrana who quickly established

10

command, and confirmed a working structure fire; and

11

WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, Engine 21 with Captain Tyler Parks, Lieutenant Eric

12

Holmander, and Firefighters Matthew Viner and Daniel Kiley arrived. Captain Parks and Lt.

13

Holmander began a primary search, Firefighter Viner began the initial fire attack with a hose line,

14

and Firefighter Kiley operated the engine pump supplying water; and

15

WHEREAS, An unresponsive male was found and extricated from the building by

16

Captain Parks and Lt. Holmander who then reentered the burning building to locate the family's

17

dog. The man was transported to the hospital and the dog was brought to a veterinarian clinic,

18

ultimately providing a safe and happy ending for all; and

19

WHEREAS, Devotion and service to the community have been just a way of life for the

1

brave volunteer firefighters of the Union Fire District and Engine 21, who have consistently

2

demonstrated that no goal is too vast and no amount of effort too great to put forth in service to

3

their fellow man. Their heroic actions are eminently worthy of our acknowledgement and our

4

gratitude; now, therefore be it

5

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes and

6

applauds Volunteer Firefighters Deputy Chief Tony Cinquegrana, Captain Tyler Parks,

7

Lieutenant Eric Holmander, Firefighter Matthew Viner, and Firefighter Daniel Kiley. We

8

moreover wish them continued good health, much happiness, and success in all their future

9

endeavors; and be it further

10

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

11

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Deputy Chief Tony Cinquegrana, Captain Tyler

12

Parks, Lieutenant Eric Holmander, Firefighter Matthew Viner, and Firefighter Daniel Kiley.
