S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF NORMAN C. MAINVILLE

     WHEREAS, It is with deepest sympathy that this Senate has learned of the passing of

2

Norman C. Mainville, the beloved husband of Barbara Mainville, devoted father of Cpt. Norman

3

Mainville, and a highly respected former Burrillville Town Councilman for fourteen years; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mainville was the son of the late Norman "Trigger" and Mary

5

Mainville, and the brother of Christine Cournoyer and husband, Wayne, Thomas Mainville, and

6

John Mainville and wife, Catherine. He served our country with honor in the United States

7

Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal; and

8

     WHEREAS, Upon attaining his Bachelor's degree in Business Management from

9

Johnson & Wales College, Mr. Mainville continued his education, earning his Master's degree in

10

Public Administration from Framingham State College, and was a Certified Government

11

Financial Manager. In his youth, he had earned the distinction of becoming an Eagle Scout and

12

later continued his association with the Boy Scouts as a scoutmaster and had held various

13

positions with the Nasonville and Harrisville Scouts; and

14

     WHEREAS, In addition to his fourteen years on the Burrillville Town Council, Mr.

15

Mainville had also served on the Town's School Committee for four years, and was the former

16

Vice President and Treasurer of the Rhode Island Association of School Committees. He was

17

active on numerous sub-committees and as a liaison to boards and commissions including the

18

Board of Administration, Zoning Board of Review, and the Planning Board, to name just a few;

19

and

20

     WHEREAS, Professionally, Mr. Mainville was a member of the Association of

Government Accountants, the International Public Management Association, the Northern RI

2

Liaison for Employer Guard and Reserves, and the President of the New England Credit Grantors

3

Association. He had also served as Co-Chairman, Project Renovation and Millennium Fund

4

Drives, and had lent his expertise to numerous additional altruistic grant proposals; and

5

     WHEREAS, Devoted to public service and his community, Mr. Mainville had served

6

over fifty years with the Nasonville and Harrisville Fire Departments and two years with

7

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue – Station 8 – Sundance. He was a retired Safety Officer,

8

Rescue & Line Officer, former Treasurer and the longest serving District Moderator for the

9

Harrisville Hose Company #1. He was also the Past President of RI EMT Association, a certified

10

Instructor for the National Fire Academy, RI Fire Academy, Emergency Medical Services and

11

CPR – Heart Association, a certified Emergency Medical Technician, and a Nationally Certified

12

Incident Safety Officer; and

13

     WHEREAS, Most recently, Mr. Mainville had been employed at Eleanor Slater Hospital

14

as a Compliance Consultant until his retirement in 2014. He had also been very active in various

15

Little League associations including volunteering as Manager of the Burrillville-Glocester Little

16

League Farm System, founder of the Burrillville Little League, and the Manager and coach of

17

three Burrillville Little League Teams; and

18

     WHEREAS, Norman Mainville epitomized a dedicated family man and public servant

19

and his life's accomplishments enriched the lives of all who knew him and set a standard for

20

excellence that is an inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed; now, therefore be it

21

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby expresses deepest

22

sympathy on the passing of Norman C. Mainville; and be it further

23

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

24

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Barbara Mainville and Family.
