RELATING TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY -- JOINT COMMITTEE ON LEGISLATIVE

SERVICES

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 22-11 of the General Laws entitled "Joint Committee on Legislative

Services" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     22-11-3.6. Revision of statutes -- Rhode Island name change.

     The law revision director is authorized and empowered to amend statutes for the purpose

of renaming the state as "The State of Rhode Island", in accordance with the statewide referendum

to amend the state constitution approved on November 3, 2020.

     SECTION 2. Chapter 43-3 of the General Laws entitled "Construction and Effect of

Statutes" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     43-3-33. Use of appropriate state name.

     When the secretary of state produces a document to instruct the public on the tenets or

purpose of a statute, the secretary of state shall ensure that the name of the state appears as "The

State of Rhode Island", in accordance with the statewide referendum to amend the state constitution

approved on November 3, 2020.

     SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would provide for amendments to statutes by the director of law revision to comply

with the state name change approved by way of statewide referendum amending the state

constitution in November, 2020.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
