J O I N T   R E S O L U T I O N

RATIFYING THE PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED

STATES RELATING TO THE LABOR OF PERSONS UNDER EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE

     WHEREAS, at the first session of the sixty-eighth Congress it was resolved by the Senate

2

and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress Assembled (two-thirds

3

of each house concurring therein), that the following article be proposed as an amendment to the

4

Constitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all intents and purposes as a part of the

5

said Constitution when ratified by the Legislatures of three-fourths of the several states, viz.:

ARTICLE

     Section 1. The Congress shall have the power to limit, regulate, and prohibit the labor of

8

persons under eighteen years of age.

     Section 2. The Power of the several States is unimpaired by this article except that the

10

operation of State laws shall be suspended to the extent necessary to give effect to legislation

11

enacted by the Congress.

     Now, therefore, be it

13

     RESOLVED, That the legislature of the State of Rhode Island does hereby ratify the

14

above recited proposed amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and be it further,

15

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be requested to transmit a certified copy of this

16

concurrent resolution to the Administrator of General Services of the United States of America.
