RELATING TO HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE -- WORK ON

HOLIDAYS AND SUNDAYS

     

     Introduced By: Senators F Lombardi, Lombardo, Felag, de la Cruz, and E Morgan

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Section 25-3-7 of the General Laws in Chapter 25-3 entitled "Work on

Holidays and Sundays" is hereby repealed amended to read as follows:

     25-3-7. Exemptions.

     Whenever in the opinion of the director any class of employers, either because of the nature

5

of their operations or their size, should be exempted from the provisions of this chapter, the director

6

may do so by regulations adopted in accordance with the provisions of § 25-3-6. All regulations

7

establishing exemptions adopted in accordance with the provisions of § 25-3-6 prior to July 1, 2021,

8

shall remain in full force and effect.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

RELATING TO HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OF SPECIAL OBSERVANCE -- WORK ON

HOLIDAYS AND SUNDAYS

     This act would eliminate the power of the director of the department of labor and training

2

to exempt certain classes of employees from receiving overtime pay for Sunday and holiday work,

3

however exemptions adopted prior to July 1, 2021 shall remain in full force and effect.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
