RELATING TO HIGHWAYS -- RHODE ISLAND TURNPIKE AND BRIDGE AUTHORITY | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 24-12 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Turnpike and |
2 | Bridge Authority" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 24-12-60. Safety barrier on bridges. |
4 | The department of transportation, in conjunction with the Rhode Island turnpike and bridge |
5 | authority, are hereby directed to erect a safety barrier and/or safety netting on the Mount Hope |
6 | Bridge, the Claiborne Pell Bridge, and the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge. The safety barrier or |
7 | netting shall be in place no later than January 1, 2023. |
8 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
