1

WHEREAS, In the evening hours on January 11th of 2020, the Central Falls Fire Alarm

2

Office received a Box Alarm. Fire companies were sent out under the direction of Battalion Chief

3

Ken Brousseau, the shift commander, who arrived first at a large apartment building set back

4

from the main road on Cross Street in Central Falls; and

5

WHEREAS, As Chief Brousseau approached the building's alarm panel, he encountered

6

smoke in the first-floor hallway and occupants armed with a fire extinguisher. They told the Chief

7

that apartment 103 was on fire and the occupant was still inside; and

8

WHEREAS, As Chief Brousseau entered the smoke filled apartment, he could see an

9

elderly man lying on the floor. He quickly reached the unconsciousness man and pulled him to

10

safety as Members of Ladder 1, under the command of Captain Sam Dyman, arrived and assisted

11

in bringing the man to the stairway lobby. He soon regained consciousness and was quickly

12

transported to the hospital where he was treated and eventually released. The Chief's quick

13

actions surely saved the man from serious life-altering injuries or even death; and

14

WHEREAS, Chief Brousseau together with the on-duty shift finished extinguishing the

15

fire and searched the large apartment building for any other occupants. Their efforts resulted in

16

limited damage to other apartments in the building which allowed tenants to return to their homes

17

later that same evening; and

18

WHEREAS, Sir Winston Churchill was quoted as saying, "We make a living by what we

19

get, we make a life by what we give." There is no doubt that Battalion Chief Brousseau and

1

members of the on-duty shift from that fateful night gave their best effort and they have truly

2

distinguished themselves as persons worthy of our utmost admiration and gratitude; now,

3

therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

5
