A N   A C T

RELATING TO HEALTH AND SAFETY -- VITAL RECORDS

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Roberts, and Chippendale

     Date Introduced: February 11, 2021

     Referred To: House State Government & Elections

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 23-3 of the General Laws entitled "Vital Records" is hereby amended

2

by adding thereto the following section:

     23-3-16.1. Additional duties of Rhode Island department of health.

     Upon the filing of the death certificate pursuant to ยง23-3-16, the department of health,

5

division of vital records, shall file written or electronic notification of the name and address of the

6

deceased with the office of the secretary of state and the chairperson of the board of canvassers of

7

the city or town in accordance with the address listed on the death certificate for the purpose of

8

removal of the deceased from the rolls of registered voters.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would require the division of vital records, upon the filing of a death certificate,

to file a written or electronic notification of the name and address of the deceased with the office

3

of the secretary of state and the chairperson of the board of canvassers of the city or town listed on

4

the death certificate for the purpose of removal from the rolls of registered voters.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
