RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- GENERAL STATE OFFICERS | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 17-2 of the General Laws entitled "General State Officers" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 17-2-4.1. Vacancy in the office of lieutenant governor. |
4 | If the office of the lieutenant governor shall become vacant or shall have become vacant |
5 | by reason of death, resignation or otherwise with eighteen (18) months or more remaining in the |
6 | four (4) year term of office, the secretary of state shall hold a special election to fill said vacancy. |
7 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
