S E N A T E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ANDREW MITRELIS

     WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that this Senate has learned of the passing of Andrew

2

Mitrelis, the beloved husband of Diane Mitrelis for sixty-three years, and a well-respected

3

business owner; and

4

     WHEREAS, Born in Kaletzi Patron, Greece, "Andy" as he was known by his family and

5

many friends, was the son of the late John and Sophia Mitrelis, and the brother of Paul Mitrelis,

6

and the late Sia Ragkos, George Mitrelis, Theodore Mitrelis and Solon Mitrelis; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Mitrelis and his wife had made their home in the City of Cranston,

8

where they had raised their daughter, Tammy Maatouk. He was the very proud grandfather of

9

Natalia Foussekis and Philippe Maatouk, and the loving great-grandfather of Giselle Machowski;

10

and

11

     WHEREAS, For many years, Mr. Mitrelis had worked as a restaurateur, and for fifty-

12

three years, had been the owner of the iconic Andreas Restaurant on Thayer Street in the College

13

Hill section of the East Side of Providence, where he offered delectable Greek dishes to local

14

residents and hungry college students; and

15

     WHEREAS, Andy Mitrelis was a kind and generous man who always had a smile on his

16

face and a silly joke to tell. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and he will be dearly

17

missed; now, therefore be it

18

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

19

hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Andrew Mitrelis; and be it further

20

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Diane Mitrelis and Family.
