A N   A C T

RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -HISTORICAL AREA ZONING

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-24.1 of the General Laws entitled "Historical Area Zoning" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     45-24.1-23. Preservation of historic structures in Cumberland.

     In addition to all other powers granted by the provisions of this chapter, the town of

Cumberland is authorized by ordinance to establish, upon recommendation of its historic district

commission, a list of specified buildings or structures which are deemed to be of historic or

architectural value, and, from time to time, to add or delete from the list by ordinance, and to require

that demolition of properties on said list be delayed for a period of time as authorized by ordinance

to provide time to evaluate prescribed alternatives to demolition.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorized the town of Cumberland to establish by ordinance a list of

buildings and structures with historic and architectural value. This act would also require a delay

of any demolition for further evaluation.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
