CONGRATULATING EMILY MYERS ON BEING SELECTED AS A RECIPIENT OF THE | |
2020 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD | |

1 | WHEREAS, Emily Myers, an esteemed resident of Hope Valley, has achieved national |
2 | recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community |
3 | Award; and |
4 | WHEREAS, This prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership |
5 | with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across |
6 | America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and |
7 | WHEREAS, The recipients of this award clearly demonstrate that young people across |
8 | America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities and |
9 | deserve all the praise and appreciation that we can give them; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Ms. Myers is a member of the University of Rhode Island 4-H Program and |
11 | an eighth-grader at Chariho Middle School. She earned the Prudential Spirit Award by giving |
12 | generously of her time by visiting a local farm every Sunday and a couple of other days during |
13 | the week to do chores in order to help two senior citizens maintain their farm; and |
14 | WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Myers spent many hours emailing and visiting local |
15 | businesses to solicit auction items, as well as helping to plan a corned-beef dinner, in order to |
16 | raise funds to cover the expenses for the annual 4-H fair. She has also helped with a local toy |
17 | drive at Christmas, delivered dairy products to a homeless shelter, cleaned a local animal shelter, |
18 | and brought table centerpieces to senior citizens; and |
19 | WHEREAS, The success of the State of Rhode Island, the strength of our communities, |

1 | and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of |
2 | young people like Ms. Myers who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; |
3 | now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations |
5 | hereby congratulates Emily Myers on being selected as a recipient of the 2020 Prudential Spirit of |
6 | Community Award. We furthermore recognize and applaud her outstanding record of volunteer |
7 | service, peer leadership, and community spirit, and extend our best wishes for her continued |
8 | success and happiness; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Emily Myers. |
