EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE HONORABLE JOHN E.

LANNI, JR.

     WHEREAS, The Honorable John E. Lanni, Jr., a dedicated public servant of distinction

2

and devoted family man, passed away on October 14, 2020. He was the beloved husband of the

3

late Lois Lanni, and is survived by his wife Denise Lanni; and

4

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lanni was a hardworking man who worked for more than twenty-five

5

years for Bonanza Bus Lines/Coach USA/Peter Pan Bus Lines as the Auditor of Revenue. He also

6

served our nation and state with honor as a member of the Rhode Island National Guard; and

7

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lanni began his exemplary public service career in 1986 when he was

8

elected to the State Constitutional Convention. He also served as a member of the 13th Senatorial

9

District Committee, was elected to serve as a State Committeeman and served as a member and

10

Chairman of the Democratic 5th Ward Committee; and

11

     WHEREAS, For sixteen years, Mr. Lanni served with distinction on the Cranston City

12

Council, serving as the 5th Ward Councilman for three terms and as a City Wide Councilman for

13

five terms, and as the Cranston City Council President for three terms; and

14

     WHEREAS, Mr. Lanni was a member of the Sons of Italy and the Cranston Historical

15

Society. He was also a member of the St. Mary’s Feast Society, the Santa Maria DiPrata Society,

16

and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Cranston; and

17

     WHEREAS, In addition to his wife, Denise, Mr. Lanni leaves behind his son John Lanni,

18

III. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Angelina, Juliana, and John IV, and his brothers

19

James Lanni, and his wife Marie, David Lanni, and his wife Josette, and Robert Lanni. He also

leaves behind his sister-in-law Paula DiMuccio, and many nieces and nephews; now, therefore be

2

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

4

expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of John E. Lanni, Jr.; and be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Denise Lanni and John Lanni III.
