JOYOUSLY CELEBRATING THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF DOROTHY K. BOYLAN

     WHEREAS, Dorothy K. Boylan was born ten decades ago on October 4, 1920. The

2

"Roaring Twenties" were an age of dramatic social and political change in our country. Women

3

were finally given the right to vote and a nationwide constitutional ban on the production,

4

importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages began; and

5

     WHEREAS, Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mrs. Boylan was the daughter of the late

6

Jeanette and George Karas. She grew up and spent most of her youth in Chicago, Illinois; and

7

     WHEREAS, Similar to many men and women of the "Greatest Generation," Mrs. Boylan

8

served our country with honor during World War II as a United States Navy Wave, stationed in

9

New York City, and subsequently became a member of the United States Navy Air Reserve in

10

Glenview, Illinois; and

11

     WHEREAS, Dorothy met and married Francis T. Boylan, who was a native of the City of

12

Newport, and for many years during the 1960s and 1970s, while he was employed by the United

13

States Navy Overseas Schools, they made their home in Washington, D.C.; and

14

     WHEREAS, The couple finally made their way to Rhode Island, settling in Middletown,

15

and later in the City-by-the-Sea, where Dorothy still resides today; and

16

     WHEREAS, Dorothy Boylan’s service to our country and her amazing grace has

17

enriched the lives of those around her and we are honored to share in the joyous celebration of her

18

100th Birthday; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

20

joins the family and friends of Dorothy K. Boylan in wishing her a very happy 100th Birthday.

We moreover wish her good health, peace of mind, and overwhelming happiness for many years

2

to come; and be it further

3

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

4

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Dorothy K. Boylan.
