HONORING REPRESENTATIVE MICHAEL A. MORIN FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE | |
PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with regret and sadness that we bid farewell to our good friend and |
2 | colleague, the Honorable Michael A. Morin, who is retiring from the Rhode Island House of |
3 | Representatives, District 49, after more than six years of devoted service to his constituents in the |
4 | City of Woonsocket and the citizens of the State of Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Morin is a graduate of Woonsocket High School and holds a |
6 | degree in fire sciences from the Community College of Rhode Island. He is a retired captain from |
7 | the Woonsocket Fire Department, having served for 28 years; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Representative Morin was elected to the Rhode Island House of |
9 | Representatives in a special election in February of 2014. Earning the respect of his peers, he was |
10 | appointed to the post of Deputy Majority Leader in January of 2019. In addition, he has served as |
11 | Second Vice Chair for the House Committee on Corporations, and as a Member of the House |
12 | Committee on Finance, the House Committee on Small Business, and the Permanent Joint |
13 | Committee on State Lottery; and |
14 | WHEREAS, As an outspoken advocate for the people of Woonsocket, Representative |
15 | Morin has helped to bring millions of dollars in tax relief to the City’s residents. He was also a |
16 | major proponent for the elimination of the car tax, sponsored child-protection legislation, and has |
17 | been an advocate for small businesses, particularly in the fast-growing brewery and distillery |
18 | industries; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Representative Morin’s commitment to the community extends beyond his |

1 | service at the State House. He is also a member in a plethora of business and professional |
2 | organizations including, serving as the former President of the Woonsocket Firefighters, Local |
3 | 732, a member of the Woonsocket Rotary Club, and on the Board of Directors for the Stadium |
4 | Theatre; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Representative Morin’s leadership and tireless devotion to the citizens of the |
6 | Ocean State have earned him our unqualified admiration and respect, and he will most assuredly |
7 | be missed; now, therefore be it |
8 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
9 | Providence Plantations hereby honors Representative Michael A. Morin as he concludes his |
10 | service in the Rhode Island General Assembly. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our |
11 | sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness and success; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Michael Morin. |
