HONORING REPRESENTATIVE DANIEL P. MCKIERNAN, ESQ., FOR HIS DEDICATED

SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Daniel McKiernan graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and

received his Bachelor’s degree in economics from Boston College. Continuing his education, he

obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from the Boston College School of Law. He is married to his

lovely wife, Christina, and is the proud father of two children, Tom and Bridget; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McKiernan is a self-employed attorney with a successful

practice in the City of Providence, and serves as a Providence Municipal Court Judge. He is a

member of the Rhode Island Bar Association and is a lector at St. Pius X Church and an officer of

the Ireland 32 Society; and

     WHEREAS, In November of 2014, the Honorable Dan McKiernan was elected to the

Rhode Island House of Representatives from District 7, which encompasses neighborhoods in the

City of Providence. Over the past six years, he has served his constituents and the citizens of

Rhode Island with distinction and integrity; and

     WHEREAS, Earning the respect of his peers, Representative McKiernan was named as a

Deputy Majority Leader and also serves as the First Vice Chairman of the House Committee on

Labor and the House Committee on Small Business. He is also a member of the House

Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, the House Committee on Judiciary, and the

House Committee on Oversight; and

     WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for his constituency, Representative McKiernan has

been outspoken on numerous issues including, sponsoring legislation that allows unionized

firefighters to enter into an agreement which continues the contract's provisions until a new

contract can be reached. He also successfully sponsored health care reform legislation, introduced

a bill requiring school departments to allow their schools to maintain epinephrine to administer

during emergency situations, and legislation empowering the Health Insurance Commissioner to

establish payor guidelines in order to enable patients access to their health claims electronically;

and

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan McKiernan has demonstrated an unwavering

commitment to excellence over the course of his career at the State House and he may indeed

reflect with great pride on his professional achievements as he prepares to embark on the next

exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

honors Representative Daniel P. McKiernan for his dedicated service to the people of Providence

and the State of Rhode Island. We moreover extend to him our best wishes for continued

happiness and good health: and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Daniel P. McKiernan, Esq.
