THANKING THE HONORABLE JOHN W. LYLE, JR., FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED | |
SERVICE IN THE RHODE ISLAND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Honorable John W. Lyle, Jr. was born in Providence in 1950. He |
2 | graduated from Lincoln High School in 1969, received an undergraduate degree from Barrington |
3 | College in 1974, a Master’s degree in education from Providence College in 1978, and his Juris |
4 | Doctorate degree from Suffolk University School of Law in 1992. He is married to Lori A. Lyle; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, Representative Lyle is a retired educator who taught in the classroom and |
7 | served as an administrator for twenty-four years at Lincoln High School. He then proceeded to |
8 | serve for six years as the Principal at Central Falls High School and for two years as the Block |
9 | Island Superintendent of Schools; and |
10 | WHEREAS, As a practicing attorney, Representative Lyle serves as an of-counsel |
11 | member of the Providence law firm of LaPlante, Sowa and Goldman, and has been an arbitrator |
12 | through the National Center for Dispute Settlement; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Representative Lyle’s long and distinguished public service career include |
14 | prior periods as an elected member of the Rhode Island State Senate from 1980 to 1986 and from |
15 | 1990 to 1994, serving from 1993 to 1994 as the Senate Minority Whip. In 2018, he was elected to |
16 | serve as a Representative in the Rhode Island House of Representatives from District 46, |
17 | representing the citizens of Lincoln and Pawtucket. He served as a member of the Committees on |
18 | Environment and Natural Resources, Health Education and Welfare, Labor, and Special |
19 | Legislation. He always served his constituents and the citizens of Rhode Island with integrity and |

1 | tireless devotion. His thoughtful demeanor and impeccable civility were qualities appreciated by |
2 | all of his colleagues; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Representative Lyle is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association, the |
4 | Rhode Island Federation of Teacher Retirees and the Rhode Island Retired Principals’ |
5 | Association. He was formerly a member of the Rhode Island PBS Board of Directors; now, |
6 | therefore be it |
7 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
8 | thanks Representative Lyle for his distinguished service in the Rhode Island House of |
9 | Representatives and his many years of exemplary public service; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable John W. Lyle, Jr. |
