HONORING JOHN C. SIMMONS FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF | |
RHODE ISLAND AS PRESIDENT AND CEO OF THE RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC | |

1 | WHEREAS, For the past eleven years, the fortunate citizens of the Ocean State have |
2 | been the beneficiaries of the focus, wisdom, and abiding dedication to excellence that John C. |
3 | Simmons has always brought to his work as the President and CEO of the Rhode Island Public |
4 | Expenditure Council (RIPEC); and |
5 | WHEREAS, During his tenure with RIPEC, Mr. Simmons has proven himself to be a |
6 | multi-talented and highly effective leader. His expertise has earned him the trust of not only the |
7 | Governors he has served under, but also the state's legislative leaders, nonprofits, and the business |
8 | community; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Mr. Simmons is credited with addressing and revamping some of the most |
10 | challenging issues facing the State and its municipalities through data driven analysis, business |
11 | partnerships, advocating for reforms, and assisting in the drafting of innovative legislation; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Under his direction, Mr. Simmons has led RIPEC in shaping important |
13 | government initiatives including, re-organizing the Commerce Corporation, financing for the |
14 | school rebuilding and infrastructure programs, tax reform, and developing a model for improving |
15 | Rhode Island's education system; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Prior to serving as RIPEC's President & CEO, Mr. Simmons was employed |
17 | as the Chief of Administration for the City of Providence and had also previously served as the |
18 | City of Boston's Chief Finance Officer, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for |
19 | the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, and Deputy General Treasurer for the State of Rhode |

2 | WHEREAS, Mr. Simmons efforts have had a positive and rewarding impact on the fiscal |
3 | efficiency and prosperity of our State and he is enormously worthy of our emulation and |
4 | gratitude; now, therefore be it |
5 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
6 | Providence Plantations hereby honors and thanks John C. Simmons for his service as President |
7 | and CEO of the Rhode Island Public Expenditure Council. We moreover wish him good health, |
8 | fulfillment, and much success in all his future endeavors; and be it further |
9 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
10 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. John C. Simmons. |
