H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF JOSEPH N. CUGINI

     WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Joseph

N. Cugini, the devoted husband of Betty Cugini for 63 years, and the beloved father of Betty-Jo

Cugini and her husband, Stephen Greene, David Joseph Cugini and his wife, Denise Ruddy, and

the very proud grandfather of Christopher Koretski, Katherine Koretski, and Finley Cugini; and

     WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Dody" to his family and friends, Mr. Cugini had

served our country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and

     WHEREAS, For forty-one years, Mr. Cugini had been employed at the Westerly

Community Credit Union, serving in myriad capacities including, General Manager, President,

CEO, and Chairman of the Board. He had also served the Credit Union Movement on a state and

world level; and

     WHEREAS, Always an active and contributing member of the community, Mr. Cugini

founded the WCCU Holiday Basketball Tournament and until his passing, had hosted a weekly

radio show featuring various statewide guests on WBLQ; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Cugini was a devoted family man and a steadfast gentleman who left

this world a far better place because of his life's endeavors. He enriched the lives of all who knew

him and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby expresses our deepest sympathies on the passing of Joseph N.

Cugini; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Betty Cugini and Family.
