SEPTEMBER 7TH OF 2019, AND THANKING RHODE ISLAND'S FISHERMEN AND | |
FISHING INDUSTRY WORKERS FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK | |

1 | WHEREAS, Rhode Island is home to the second largest fishing fleet in New England. |
2 | The fishing industry is not only vital to the State's economy, but also essential to the culinary |
3 | well-being of all who enjoy eating local, fresh caught seafood; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The Port of Galilee is consistently in the top three commercial fishing ports |
5 | in the entire United States in squid landings and the squid that is brought in through the Port has |
6 | an international reputation for its quality; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Officially celebrated on the first Saturday after Labor Day, the Rhode Island |
8 | Calamari Festival is a day to celebrate and devour delectable calamari, our "Official State |
9 | Appetizer"; and |
10 | WHEREAS, This year's Calamari Festival will feature the music renderings of local |
11 | bands, a tempting lineup of food trucks, a vast array of unique seaside shopping opportunities, the |
12 | informative demonstrations of Calamari Cook-off contests, as well as the tantalizing delights of a |
13 | panoply of scrumptious calamari samples; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island commercial seafood and fishing industry is a vital part of |
15 | the State's economy. Rhode Island's fishing industry catches more the $93 million worth of |
16 | seafood annually with a sales value of $200 million annually. Altogether, the Rhode Island |
17 | fishing and seafood industry supports approximately 7,889 jobs and without these hard-working |
18 | men and women, our state wouldn't have an official appetizer nor would there be a calamari |
19 | festival to celebrate; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
2 | Providence Plantations hereby celebrates the 5th annual "Rhode Island Calamari Festival", and |
3 | congratulates and wishes the best success, and sated appetites to all the participants and guests. |
4 | We moreover thank and recognize all of our hard-working fishing industry workers; and be it |
5 | further |
6 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
7 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Narragansett Chamber of Commerce. |
