A N   A C T

RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT -- ATLANTIC TIME ZONE

     Introduced By: Representatives Filippi, Place, Lyle, and Nardone

     Date Introduced: February 27, 2019

     Referred To: House Special Legislation

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Title 42 of the General Laws entitled "STATE AFFAIRS AND

GOVERNMENT" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following chapter:

CHAPTER 160

TIME ZONE

     42-160-1. Time zone change.

     If and when the Commonwealth of Massachusetts shall enact legislation adopting the

Atlantic Time Zone in that state in preference to the Eastern Time Zone, then in such event, the

state of Rhode Island shall likewise adopt the Atlantic Time Zone; the change to be effected in

Rhode Island on the same date and time.

     42-160-2. Implementation of time zone change.

     If a time zone change occurs pursuant to § 42-159-1, the governor shall direct the

superintendent of the state police to prepare such plans and directives for the practical

implementation of the change of time zone as may be necessary and desirable.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would provide for Rhode Island's adoption of the Atlantic Time Zone if and

when Massachusetts does so.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
