1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Dr. |
2 | Clark A. Sammartino, beloved husband of 57 years to his wife, Carole, and devoted father to |
3 | Catherine "Cassie" Berg and her husband, Andrew, Joanna Bailey and her husband, Thomas, |
4 | Michael Sammartino, and his wife, Pamela, David Sammartino, and his wife, Kimberly, and his |
5 | twin daughters, the late Lisa and Joanna Sammartino. He was also the proud grandfather of eight |
6 | grandchildren, Lucas Berg, Adam Berg, Nicolas Berg, Clark Sammartino, Emma Sammartino, |
7 | Isabelle Sammartino, Augustus Bailey and Ameline Bailey, and seven nieces and nephews; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Sammartino was the son of the late Dr. Agostino and Frances |
9 | Sammartino, and the brother of the late Frances Innis. He graduated from Classical High School, |
10 | and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brown University, where he served as his alumnae |
11 | class president for decades, co-chaired reunions, and was a board member of Brown's Athletic |
12 | Hall of Fame. Continuing his education, he received his Master of Science degree in bacteriology |
13 | from the University of Rhode Island, and graduated with honors from the Tufts School of Dental |
14 | Medicine, where he became an assistant clinical professor; and |
15 | WHEREAS, For twenty-seven years, Dr. Sammartino was an oral and maxillofacial |
16 | surgeon. He also served as the Chief and Director of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at Rhode |
17 | Island, Roger Williams, and St. Joseph's/Our Lady of Fatima Hospitals, as well as Roger |
18 | Williams Medical Center, and had published scholarly articles in various medical journals, |
19 | including the Journal of the American Dental Society, the Journal of the American Medical |

1 | Association, and the Journal of Oral Surgery; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Upon his retirement as a surgeon, Dr. Sammartino founded Blue Fin |
3 | Capital, an investment advisory firm, with partners Rich Carolan and Mars Bishop. He had also |
4 | served as a boxing judge, presiding over more than 120 championship bouts on behalf of all four |
5 | major organizations recognized by the International Boxing Federation; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Professionally, Dr. Sammartino was a past President of the Rhode Island |
7 | Dental Association and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. |
8 | He also served the community on numerous boards including, former Chairman of the Rhode |
9 | Island Health, Education and Building Corporation, former Board President of Saint Mary's |
10 | Home for Children, and former President of the American Cancer Society (Rhode Island |
11 | Division); and |
12 | WHEREAS, Described as unassuming and generous, hard-working and ever-cheerful, |
13 | Dr. Clark Sammartino was widely-admired and loved by all who had the good fortune to be part |
14 | of his extraordinary life and he will be dearly missed; now, therefore be it |
15 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
16 | Providence Plantations hereby offers sincere condolences on the passing of Dr. Clark A. |
17 | Sammartino; and be it further |
18 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
19 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Carole Sammartino and Family. |
