RELATING TO ELECTIONS -- RHODE ISLAND CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS AND | |
EXPENDITURES REPORTING | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 17-25 of the General Laws entitled "Rhode Island Campaign |
2 | Contributions and Expenditures Reporting" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following |
3 | section: |
4 | 17-25-31. Reporting required by nonprofit entities. |
5 | (a) Any nonprofit entity that provides transportation, housing, meals or any other amenity |
6 | to any person who holds any elective office or who is running for any elective office in any |
7 | election year, shall be subject to all reporting requirements under this chapter and shall report the |
8 | value of any transportation, housing, meals or any other amenity as a donation to the recipient's |
9 | campaign. |
10 | (b) Any person holding or seeking any elective office shall be required to report the |
11 | receipt of any transportation, housing, meals or any other amenity from any nonprofit entity as a |
12 | campaign donation consistent with the provisions of this chapter. |
13 | (c) Any nonprofit entity or person holding or seeking elective office that provides or |
14 | receives transportation, housing, meals, or any other amenity shall be subject to the contribution |
15 | limits enumerated in this chapter. |
16 | (d) Any nonprofit entity that is owned, operated, managed or otherwise controlled by any |
17 | person holding or running for an elective office shall provide to any other candidate, or other |
18 | nonprofit for the benefit of any candidate, any transportation, housing, meal or any other amenity. |

1 | (e) Any entity or person that violates this section shall be subject to the penalty |
2 | provisions provided in this chapter. |
3 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |

1 | This act would require that nonprofit entities and candidates for elective office comply |
2 | with reporting requirements and contribution limits for transportation, housing, meals and other |
3 | amenities provided to those holding or seeking elective office. It also prohibits any nonprofit |
4 | owned by any office holder or candidate from providing any type of amenities to any other |
5 | candidate. |
6 | This act would take effect upon passage. |
