RELATING TO EDUCATION -- SCHOOL FUNDS AND PROPERTY | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 16-9 of the General Laws entitled "School Funds and Property" is |
2 | hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 16-9-11. Temperature control of school facilities. |
4 | (a) Every school district shall ensure that the schools in their respective districts provide |
5 | students with a temperature controlled environment conducive to learning. Each school district |
6 | shall: |
7 | (1) Maintain classroom temperatures within the target range of sixty-eight degrees (68°) |
8 | to seventy-six degrees (76°) Fahrenheit, and humidity control in the range of twenty to sixty |
9 | percent (20%-60%), in all occupied areas of school facilities. |
10 | (b) The department of education shall promulgate rules and regulations to effectuate the |
11 | provisions of this section and shall be responsible for the enforcement of the provisions of this |
12 | section. |
13 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
