H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N | |
CONGRATULATING THE AMAZING NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS ON WINNING SUPER
BOWL LIII BY THE SCORE OF 13-3 OVER THE LOS ANGELES RAMS
| |
Introduced By: Representatives Mattiello, Shekarchi, Lima, Filippi, and Edwards
Date Introduced: February 06, 2019
Referred To: House read and passed
1 | WHEREAS, On February 3, 2019, the New England Patriots won their sixth Super Bowl |
2 | tying the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most Super Bowls won in NFL history. Super Bowl LIII, |
3 | played in Atlanta, Georgia, is the ninth Super Bowl the Patriots have played in since the start of |
4 | their dynasty in the 2001 season. The Patriots franchise has also made eleven Super Bowl |
5 | appearances in its history, the most by any NFL team; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Super Bowl LIII surprised most observers when it turned into a low-scoring |
7 | defensive struggle. The Patriots defense stifled the Rams and star quarterback Jared Goff thanks |
8 | to the ferocious pass rush provided by Dont’a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy and others, and the tight |
9 | pass coverage provided by a standout secondary led by Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty and |
10 | Patrick Chung. Rams superstar running back Todd Gurley was also shut down by the hard-hitting |
11 | Patriots defense which limited him to a meager total of 35 yards rushing; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Tom Brady, who has set a record for the most Super Bowls won by a player |
13 | with six, and most appearances as a player with nine, once again showed why he’s the |
14 | quarterback you want on your side under pressure, as he led the Patriots on a clutch touchdown |
15 | scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to take the lead in the game. In this scoring drive, Brady hit |
16 | an array of receivers down the field on the march to the end zone. Brady and Gronkowski |
17 | connected for two key completions, one of which got the Patriots to the Rams two-yard line. |
18 | Julian Edelman, the Super Bowl MVP, caught a key pass as did running back Rex Burkhead. |
19 | Rookie running back sensation Sony Michel ran the ball in from the two yard line to finish off the |
| |
1 | drive; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Once again Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick, who has set records for |
3 | most Super Bowl wins and appearances by an NFL Head Coach, expertly prepared his team for a |
4 | big game. The Patriots quick-changing schemes on defense had the entire Rams offense off- |
5 | balance and flustered for the entire game. On offense, the Patriots controlled the time of |
6 | possession and when they needed a score, they delivered with a lightning-fast five-play drive that |
7 | took less than three minutes. Having Belichick on the sideline is almost like having an extra |
8 | player on the field; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
10 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates the New England Patriots on defeating the Los |
11 | Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl LIII; and be it further |
12 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
13 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to New England Patriots owner, Robert Kraft, and |
14 | Head Coach Bill Belichick. |
