MEDICAL SCHOOL LESSON | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Chapter 4-19 of the General Laws entitled "Animal Care" is hereby |
2 | amended by adding thereto the following section: |
3 | 4-19-11.4. Use of animals in medical school training. |
4 | (a) A medical school may not use a live animal in the medical education or training of |
5 | their students if there is an alternate teaching method that: |
6 | (1) Teaches its chosen medical procedure or lesson without the use of a live animal; and |
7 | (2) Is used by at least one other accredited medical school in the state. |
8 | (b) Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a |
9 | misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be fined not more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) for |
10 | each animal used. |
11 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
