1 | WHEREAS, The mission of the National Organization of Italian American Women is "to |
2 | unite and connect women through Italian culture and heritage, to celebrate the achievements of |
3 | women of Italian ancestry, to inspire and enrich members with shared interests in cultural |
4 | programs, and to empower and advance the educational and professional aspirations of current |
5 | and future generations"; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Professor Maria C. Mansella earned a Bachelor's Degree Cum Laude from |
7 | Rhode Island College in Secondary Education with a concentration in French and Italian, and a |
8 | Minor in Portuguese, and a Master's Degree in Arts from Middlebury College. She also attended |
9 | Brown University, the University of Rhode Island and the Salamanca Summer Immersion |
10 | Program in Spain and earned a Diploma of Maturita Magistrale (Elementary Education |
11 | Certification), from the Instituto Vincenzo Gioberti, Sora, Italy; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Professor Mansella has taught Italian, and occasionally French and Spanish, |
13 | for many years at the Community College of Rhode Island. She is also a special lecturer for the |
14 | Providence College School of Continuing Education. In addition, she presents foreign language |
15 | workshops at the local and state levels, and organizes and directs the Community College of |
16 | Rhode Island Travel/Study Program in Orvieto, Italy; and |
17 | WHEREAS Professor Mansella is active in numerous professional associations. She |
18 | served as the President of the Rhode Island Teachers of Italian, from 2000 to 2004, and as a |
19 | member of the American Association of Teachers of Italian, where she served on the National |

1 | Examination Committee. She was the Corresponding Secretary of the Rhode Island Foreign |
2 | Language Association and the co-editor of their newsletter. She is also an active member of the |
3 | Italian American Historical Society of Rhode Island, the Renaissance-Alliance Lodge-Sons of |
4 | Italy, the October Heritage Month Committee, and the National Organization of Italian American |
5 | Women; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Professor Mansella was honored on January 20, 2019, at Café Nuovo in |
7 | Providence, by the National Organization for Italian American Women for her thirty-five year |
8 | professional teaching career for cultivating an appreciation and recognition of the Italian language |
9 | and culture in our communities; now, therefore be it |
10 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and |
11 | Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Professor Maria C. Mansella for being honored by |
12 | the National Organization of Italian American Women; and be it further |
13 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
14 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Professor Maria C. Mansella. |
