H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING HELDER J. CUNHA FOR HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF

THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The Honorable Helder J. Cunha was first elected to the Ward 2 seat on the

East Providence City Council, where he also served as Assistant Mayor. On November 8th of

2016, he was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 64

which encompasses portions of the City of East Providence; and

     WHEREAS, For the past two years, Representative Cunha has been a member of the

House Committee on Labor and the House Committee on Small Business; and

     WHEREAS, Dedicated to his constituency and to the best interests of the City of East

Providence, Representative Cunha has championed both the efforts and the legislation that would

provide an income tax credit up to $500 for a property owner whose primary residence is located

in a municipality having a water or sewer rate calculated above the statewide rate average and

legislation to provide an income tax credit of 25 percent, not exceeding $250, of an elderly

taxpayer resident's water and sewer bills for their primary residence; and

     WHEREAS, In addition to the long hours devoted to the State House, his wife, Sandra,

and his children Arianna, Jocelyn, and Roman, Representative Cunha is self-employed in the

construction industry and is a member of the Centro Cultural de Santa Maria; and

     WHEREAS, Representative Cunha has improved the lives of many people through his

diligent efforts on behalf of his constituency and the citizens of this state, and he will be greatly

missed in the House Chamber; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors Representative Helder J. Cunha as he concludes his service

in the Rhode Island House of Representatives. We thank him for a job well done, and extend our

sincere wishes for his continued health, happiness, and success; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Honorable Helder Cunha.
