HONORING KATHLEEN BAZINET ON BEING NAMED CHIEF MARSHAL OF THE 2018

BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND, FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION

     WHEREAS, The Bristol, Rhode Island, Fourth of July Celebration was founded in 1785,

2

and is the oldest Fourth of July celebration in the United States; and

3

     WHEREAS, Beginning in 1826, a Chief Marshal has been chosen annually. It is a highly

4

enviable and exceptional tribute bestowed upon a Bristol resident who has exhibited outstanding

5

devotion and distinction within the community and it is therefore fitting that Kathleen Bazinet has

6

been chosen to be the Chief Marshal of the 2018 Bristol Fourth of July Celebration; and

7

     WHEREAS, Recently-retired, Ms. Bazinet had worked as the Executive Director of the

8

East Bay Community Development Corp. (EBCDC) for the past eighteen years. During her

9

tenure, she had spear-headed the organization's growth with the development of two Elder Care

10

facilities in Bristol, the building of new affordable housing units throughout the East Bay, and

11

numerous additional projects; and

12

     WHEREAS, Ms. Bazinet has also been active with myriad social and political

13

organizations in town, including serving six years on the Bristol Town Council and four years on

14

the town planning board. She was also instrumental in helping to secure space for the very

15

successful East Bay Food Pantry through the EBCDC; and

16

     WHEREAS, The Bristol Community could not have chosen a person more worthy of this

17

high honor than Kathy Bazinet and she will surely make us all proud with her service as the new

18

Chief Marshal of the Bristol Fourth of July Celebration; now, therefore be it

19

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby congratulates Kathleen Bazinet on being named Chief Marshal of

2

the 2018 Bristol, Rhode Island, Fourth of July Celebration. We moreover commend her for her

3

many extraordinary achievements and contributions, and wish her continued health, happiness

4

and success in all her future endeavors; and be it further

5

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

6

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kathleen Bazinet.
