H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING THE RHODE ISLAND ASSISTED LIVING ASSOCIATION AND

PROCLAIMING MAY 4, 2018, TO BE "ASSISTED LIVING DAY" IN THE STATE OF

RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Assisted Living Association's members include sixty

2

licensed assisted living communities across the State of Rhode Island serving more than 4,500

3

senior citizens and people with disabilities; and

4

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Assisted Living Association's mission is to advocate for

5

the highest level of independence and quality of life for assisted living residents; and

6

     WHEREAS, The Association serves as the voice of assisted living in the State of Rhode

7

Island and uses that voice to provide information, education, and advocacy on behalf of the

8

assisted living industry in Rhode Island and the population it serves; and

9

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Assisted Living Association and its members have led

10

efforts to rebalance and reform long-term care financing and regulation to further promote

11

dignity, independence and quality of care; and

12

     WHEREAS, On May 4th, Rhode Islanders celebrate Rhode Island Independence Day, the

13

day when Rhode Island became the first colony to renounce allegiance to the British crown and

14

declare Rhode Island sovereign and independent; and

15

     WHEREAS, On Rhode Island Independence Day, it is fitting to recognize an industry

16

and long-term care workers that have dedicated themselves to promoting senior citizen dignity,

17

autonomy and independence; now, therefore be it

18

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

19

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes and honors the Rhode Island Assisted Living

Association for its dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of our state's senior citizens and

2

proclaims May 4, 2018, to be “Assisted Living Day” in the State of Rhode Island; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

5

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Kathleen Kelly, Executive Director of the

6

Rhode Island Assisted Living Association.
