CELEBRATING "BEN MONDOR DAY" ON APRIL 5TH, 2018, IN THE STATE OF RHODE

ISLAND

     WHEREAS, In 1977, Mr. Bernard G. Mondor, known as Ben to his many friends and

2

admirers, purchased a failing minor league baseball franchise in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He

3

soon transformed both team and stadium into a thriving fan and family-friendly venue; and

4

     WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure at the helm of the PawSox, Ben Mondor won acclaim

5

and admiration not only for his professional successes with the PawSox franchise, but also for his

6

vision, drive, and community involvement; and

7

     WHEREAS, The impact and legacy Ben Mondor left on the game of baseball are

8

nationally renowned and there is no doubt that he left this state a far better place because of his

9

life's endeavors; and

10

     WHEREAS, Sadly in 2010, Ben Mondor passed away, but he will forever hold a place of

11

honor in Rhode Island's history. His greatest gift to our state can be found in the eyes and hearts

12

of fans both young and old alike, who have been able to savor the magic of a warm summer

13

evening at the ballpark, enjoying America's favorite pastime, because of this extraordinary man's

14

determination and generosity; now, therefore be it

15

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

16

Providence Plantations hereby celebrates "Ben Mondor Day" on April 5th of 2018. We moreover

17

honor Ben Mondor, former owner of the beloved PawSox, for entertaining and inspiring

18

generations of Rhode Islanders; and be it further

19

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Larry Lucchino, and Mike Tamburro.
