RELATING TO EDUCATION -- RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL SAFETY | |

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: | |
1 | SECTION 1. Title 16 of the General Laws entitled "EDUCATION" is hereby amended |
2 | by adding thereto the following chapter: |
3 | CHAPTER 110 |
4 | RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL SAFETY EVALUATION PROGRAM FUND |
5 | 16-110-1. Establishment of fund. |
6 | There is hereby established a restricted receipt account for the purpose of funding school |
7 | safety evaluations, to be known as the "Rhode Island Public School Safety Evaluation Program |
8 | Fund". |
9 | 16-110-2. Appropriations. |
10 | The general assembly shall appropriate the sum of six hundred fifty thousand dollars |
11 | ($650,000) in support of the purpose of this chapter. |
12 | 16-110-3. Disbursements. |
13 | For studies to be conducted after July 1, 2018, and thereafter, any public school in Rhode |
14 | Island may apply to the department of education for funds sufficient to conduct a study of a |
15 | particular school in order to determine the steps needed to make that school safer for its students. |
16 | 16-110-4. Reimbursement. |
17 | The fund may reimburse, up to a limit of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), the |
18 | cost of any such study performed in fiscal year 2018. Under extraordinary circumstances |

1 | requiring the expenditure of a sum in excess of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1,500), the |
2 | fund may reimburse the cost of such study up to a limit of two thousand five hundred dollars |
3 | ($2,500) for studies performed in fiscal year 2018. |
4 | 16-110-5. Administration of fund. |
5 | The department of education shall promulgate rules and regulations for the administration |
6 | of the fund. |
7 | SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage. |
