H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING DEBORAH DEBARE FOR HER DEVOTED SERVICE AS EXECUTIVE

DIRECTOR OF THE RHODE ISLAND COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

     WHEREAS, Americans hold dear to the belief that one person can make a difference.

The life and accomplishments of Deb DeBare stand as testament to those beliefs; and

     WHEREAS, For the past twenty-three years, since 1995, Deb DeBare has served as the

Executive Director of The Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence (RICADV); and

     WHEREAS, During Ms. DeBare's tenure, the RICADV has earned national recognition

for the creation of innovative domestic violence prevention initiatives, ground-breaking

communications work, and the establishment of Sisters Overcoming Abusive Relationships, an

award-winning taskforce, to name but a few of its myriad accomplishments; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. DeBare's success wasn’t simply a result of her immense talents, but was

also due to her inner strength, passion and determination, and a staff and board that have worked

collectively and proficiently to gain passage for landmark legislation to help victims of domestic

violence and their families, to establish a Domestic Violence Prevention Fund, and to collaborate

and facilitate the creation of five new affiliate member agencies; and

     WHEREAS, Deb DeBare is a remarkable and caring woman who is a paradigm of the

very best leadership qualities. She leaves a legacy of immeasurable achievements for the people

of Rhode Island and she is eminently worthy of our gratitude and acknowledgement; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors and thanks Deborah DeBare for more than two decades of

dedicated service with the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence and moreover

congratulates her on her new position as Senior Deputy Director at the National Network to End

Domestic Violence. We furthermore extend best wishes for her continued success, fulfillment,

and good health; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Deborah DeBare.
